A roaring fire in your fireplace or woodstove warms your soul and aids to heat your home.  Be aware
that the by-product of burning wood is soot and at times a very hazardous/combustible residue called creosote.
Soot is a black powder-like residue that builds up in your fireplace or woodstove flue system.  Soot
typically does not pose a fire hazard but if left to build up soot can restrict the flow of smoke going
up the chimney and cause your fireplace or woodstove to smoke.  If not properly removed from your
flue system, a black tar-like residue called creosote can start to form.  Creosote can also form in
your chimney /flue system if the flue is not properly sized to vent the fireplace or woodstove that it services.
A direct flame from your fireplace or woodstove can ignite the creosote in the chimney/flue causing a chimney fire.
The heat from a chimney fire can reach temperatures as high as 2000 degrees.  This type of heat can damage
flue tiles, brick, metal flue pipe, mortar joints and spread to the structure of your home causing major fire
damage to your house and property and possibly loss of life.
The National Fire Protection Association recommends that your wood-burning flue system
be inspected once a year and cleaned if necessary.  As a rule by the time that you have
burned a cord of wood (cut stack of wood 4 wide x 4 tall x 8 lone) it is time for a
chimney cleaning.  Chimney Tech has cleaned thousands of chimneys over the years and is
